DAY 02

Lima → Cusco — Awanacancha & Pisac

Morning | Flight to Cusco and descent to the Sacred Valley
After breakfast, a private transfer takes you to the airport for your flight to Cusco. On arrival we head directly to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, whose lower altitude helps you acclimatize gently.

Midday | Awanacancha, living Andean textiles
We stop at Awanacancha, where you meet llamas, alpacas and vicuñas and watch local weavers demonstrate the natural dyeing and ancestral weaving techniques of the Andes.

Afternoon | Pisac citadel and market
We visit the impressive Inca citadel of Pisac, with its agricultural terraces cascading down the mountainside and a hillside honeycombed with ancient tombs, followed by the colorful artisan market. Overnight in the Sacred Valley.

DAY 03

Sacred Valley — Chinchero & Ollantaytambo (or Maras & Moray)

Morning | Chinchero, the land of the rainbow
We begin in Chinchero, a traditional weaving village with Inca terraces and a colonial church built over an Inca palace. (Alternatively, this day can visit Moray, the circular Inca agricultural laboratory, and the dazzling salt pans of Maras.)

Afternoon | Ollantaytambo, a living Inca town
We explore Ollantaytambo, whose original streets and water channels still flow. We climb the great terraces to the Temple of the Sun with its colossal precision-cut monoliths, a masterpiece of Inca engineering. Overnight in the Sacred Valley, close to the train station for tomorrow's journey to Machu Picchu.

Machu Picchu

Morning | Train to the wonder of the world
We board the panoramic train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes, following the Urubamba River through the cloud forest. From there a bus climbs the winding Hiram Bingham road to the citadel gate.

Midday | Guided tour of Machu Picchu
Your private guide leads you through the three great sectors of the citadel: the agricultural terraces, the urban quarter and the sacred precinct — the Temple of the Sun, the Intihuatana solar clock, the Temple of the Three Windows and the main plaza. Time for photographs from the classic panoramic lookout.

Afternoon | Overnight in Aguas Calientes
We descend to Aguas Calientes for the night, with the option to relax in the town's hot springs.

TRAVELER STORIES

Loved by those who walked it.

“Every detail felt considered before we even asked — the private train car, the guide who knew we loved photography and timed our arrival for the light. This is how Machu Picchu should be seen.”
Eleanor Whitfield · United Kingdom
“No crowds, no rush — just the two of us and nine hundred years of stone in the morning mist. Worth every mile.”
